Folks at Mystery Hill between Blowing Rock and Boone might say there’s something supernatural to it, while bigfoot hunters might say there’s something paranormal going on, but it undeniable that there is a draw to Western North Carolina. Of course, not everyone feels it and not everyone gets fully possessed by it. Should you feel the call of the mountains, however, it’s impossible to resist.
Truth be told, it’s not just the mountains. There are a multitude of reasons why people move to WNC, and dozens of towns that have their own special magnetism. Whereas some come to create art or music or crafts in towns like Black Mountain or Waynesville, others arrive looking only for acreage for a homestead in Madison County or a conventional farm outside of Hendersonville. Then again, some people show up without full knowledge of what they’ll do once they get here or exactly what kind of land they’re looking for.
According to Tom Cure, resident mystic and Owner and Broker in Charge of LandCrazy, they just know they want to be here. “If the desire is there, the right property will manifest,” Tom says. “It will find you.”
Really?
Maybe. Fate’s mechanic isn’t known for having loose lips.
What Tom can tell you, however, is that the flood of new people into the area have not exhausted the number of properties in WNC, nor have they have made competition for land nearly as fierce as it has been for homes in cities like Asheville and Brevard. Instead, land sales have followed a steady and fairly stable trajectory.
For sellers, this means they will find buyers without too much of a problem. For buyers, it means they have to act fast when that perfect property finally manifests.

Moving anywhere isn’t easy. There are always surprises and there are always reasons for second-guessing or playing it safe and sticking to routine. This is why Tom has always admired working with people who come from hundreds or even thousands of miles away and want to call WNC home. They’ve heard a call that many of them don’t fully understand, yet they’ve decided to listen to it and see where it leads them.
